Infectious Illness Policy

How to manage an infectious illness at Berghutte

We very much care about the health and wellbeing of all our members and guests at Berghutte. If you or anyone in your group begins to feel unwell with symptoms of any infectious illness—whether it’s COVID-19, a cold, the flu, or gastrointestinal issues—we ask that you take immediate steps to protect the comfort and safety of everyone at the lodge.

If you develop even mild symptoms, please:

  1. Self-isolate: Stay in your room with the door closed and contact the Lodge Manager immediately.

  2. Plan to leave promptly: If possible, make arrangements to vacate the lodge the next morning.

  3. Use protective measures: When you need to leave your room, wear a disposable face mask and gloves, and practice good hand hygiene.

  4. Seek medical advice: Contact your GP or Healthdirect at 1800 022 222 for non-urgent medical help. In an emergency, dial Triple Zero (000).

Our Lodge Managers are here to assist and may help in finding alternative accommodations if you’re too unwell to travel home. We’re committed to maintaining a safe, healthy environment for all, so please don’t hesitate to ask for support if you need it.

Before leaving the Lodge:

  • Only leave your room in case of emergency or if you have the prior approval of the Lodge Managers. If you leave your room, you must wash or sanitise your hands, wear disposable gloves* and a clean and disposable face mask* that covers your nose and mouth and physically distance yourself from others.

  • If necessary, the Lodge Managers may assist in packing up your belongings located outside of your room or let you know a suitable time for you to do this.

  • Practice good hand hygiene by regularly washing your hands with soap and water or hand sanitiser.

  • Any deliveries are to be left outside your closed door. Do not open the door until the delivery person has left, the corridor is empty and you are wearing a face mask that covers your nose and mouth.

  • Wear a face mask* in your room if you have family/friends staying in the same room.

  • Open windows if possible/safe to maximise fresh air and natural ventilation.

  • If possible, the Lodge Managers may be able to relocate family / friends to another room.

  • If you need medical advice, you should call your GP, Healthdirect for non-urgent medical advice (24 hours x 7 days) on 1800 022 222. If symptoms become severe call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

  • Check with the Managers as you may be eligible for a refund for part of your booking if you can provide a medical certificate or evidence of a positive COVID-19 test (refer to Terms and Conditions of Booking).

What if I am a household or close contact of a person with an infectious illness?

Family and friends staying in the same room or anyone who may be considered a close contact should:

  • MONITOR for symptoms.

  • MASKS - wear a face mask* in all communal areas of the Lodge; this is a Berghutte requirement for close contacts aged 12 years and over.

  • DISTANCE - stay 1.5 metres away from other people and sit separately from others when eating and drinking in communal areas.

What should I do when travelling home or to alternative accommodation?

  • Map the most direct route and identify safe rest break areas before you leave.

  • Wear a face mask inside the car if there are other people in the car with you.

  • Wear a face mask if/when you need to take a break.

  • Sanitise your hands before you get in and out of the vehicle.
